Delegable Tasks

This is a thread for tasks that any developer can take up and accomplish. If you're feeling up to one of them, post here. Also: feel free to post other ideas you're interested in working on. Here are a few to start.

1. A new HUD: I have a list of required elements, but someone can open a thread for further suggestions if needed.
2. An Interface: this could be combined with the HUD project (and should at least use the same theme).
3. Intoxication: we mostly just need the effects of intoxication (slurred speech, miss-stepping, passing out)--the actual tracking/skill gain is pretty much in place.

4. Sleep: this could possibly be combined with passing out.

I have a few other things, but a lot of stuff relies on the new HUD. There are plenty of resource development jobs people could take up (creating plants/animals, equipment, etc), but if you have other ideas, please post them :D .

I'm a little behind on the next update between my birthday, family Christmas events, and soon New Years, but I've thought of a couple more things I'm sure we can find someone to work on:

1. A new readables system: at its most basic, I'd like a new, faster screen text system, but someone could also develop the entire readable system (display of books/notes/signs on the hud). Credit even just for finding a really good library that does this--I don't really want to mess with it myself right now.

2. An external saving system; we need a way to save and retrieve characters to/from a shell server (or a similar setup) so we can be rid of the client-side saving and start saving on exit. This will take a little more know-how, and I've not dabbled in this area enough to bother with it myself.

I'm sure I'll think of more tasks soon, but I thought I'd give people some stuff to consider while they're out celebrating. Feel free to ask other people for ideas as well--this doesn't have to be kept strictly in our little circle of developers.

I need to come up with more of these tasks, but I have one other major one to add to the list:

Gambling mini-games. These could be dice- or card-based games, or something entirely different. I'd like them to be initiated by an item (cup of dice, deck of cards) that players use from their inventory, and then allow them to control the game either by clicking or using the arrow keys to select HUD elements. Betting and winning money would also be important. If anyone wishes to take this up, we can begin more in-depth discussion in another thread.
